Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Trick Hoteliers and Retailers

They impersonate Carabinieri when making telephone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in Medio and Alto Garda, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri – just dial 112 – as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by individuals who,

after collecting the money, disappear without a trace.
