Scammers Impersonate Police to Sell Fake Magazine Subscriptions

They impersonate Carabinieri when making telephone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to magazines from the force.

They are not military personnel but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement.

So be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri – just dial 112 – as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by individuals who, after taking the money, disappear.
