Fake Carabinieri Calls Targeting Garda Businesses: How to Recognize and Respond

They impersonate Carabinieri when telephonically contacting hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in Medio and Alto Garda, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

They are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement.

So be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri – just dial 112 – as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,
