Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri in Garda Region, Warn Authorities

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines affiliated with the force.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, the police, firefighters, or municipal officers.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to the law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately inform the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

once they have a sum of money, disappears.
