Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Garda Businesses into Fake Subscriptions

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Medio and Alto Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

They are not soldiers, but scammers who, each time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement.

So, be cautious and immediately notify the true Carabinieri — dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

once they have the money, disappear completely.
