Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Target Garda Businesses

They pretend to be Carabinieri when contacting hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

Therefore, stay alert and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by individuals who,

once they have the money, disappear and are no longer visible.
