Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Win Trust of Local Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when phoning hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Medio and Alto Garda regions, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the financial authorities, police, fire brigade, or municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often suggest subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those with no connection to the law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the Carabinieri — you only need to dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

or who has taken the money, disappears and is no longer visible.
