Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Trick Hoteliers and Business Owners

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in Medio and Alto Garda, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, each time, claim to belong to the finance department, police, fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often offer subscriptions to non-existent magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately inform the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by someone who,

had money, and then disappears.
