Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Target Local Businesses in Garda Regions

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the Medio and Alto Garda regions, offering subscriptions to magazines associated with the force.

They are not military personnel but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal guards.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

seeking money, no longer shows up.
