Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Hoteliers and Business Owners

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the Middle and Upper Garda regions, proposing subscriptions to magazines of the force.

They are not actual members of the military but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the financial police, police, fire brigade, or local municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

They often suggest subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the legitimate Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

has money, and then disappears.
