Garda Scam Alert: Fake Police Impersonators Target Local Businesses

They pose as Carabinieri when telephoning hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines of the arm.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, each time, claim to belong to finance, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to Recognize Frauds

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or ones that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and promptly notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect that you have been targeted by someone who,
