Scammers Impersonate Police in Garda Area, Warns Carabinieri

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Mid and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

They are not military personnel but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

Recognizing scams

They often suggest subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or ones that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

if they request money, disappear without a trace.
