Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Garda Hoteliers and Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Medio and Alto Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

These are not military personnel but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

So, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have fallen victim to someone who,

if they have money, no longer shows up.
