Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Trick Garda Businesses
They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.
They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal guards.
Recognizing the scams
They often suggest subscriptions to non-existent magazines or ones that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.
Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you are being targeted by individuals who,
if they have money, disappear and stop being visible.
