Fraudsters Impersonate Carabinieri in Garda Phone Scams Targeting Local Business Owners

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to police force magazines.

They are not military personnel but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to Recognize Scams

They often suggest subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect that you have been targeted by someone who,
