Scammers Impersonate Police in Garda Area to Target Local Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda area, proposing magazine subscriptions from the force.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal guards.

How to Recognize Fraud

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.

So, be alert and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — just call 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

wants money, and then disappears.
