Scammers Impersonate Police to Promote Fake Magazine Subscriptions

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in Medio and Alto Garda, proposing subscriptions to magazines of the force.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the financial police, the police, fire brigade, or municipal police force.

How to recognize scams

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

would take money and then disappear.
