Scammers Impersonate Police to Target Garda Hoteliers and Shopkeepers

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda, offering subscriptions to magazines of the army.

They are not soldiers, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

Recognizing Scams

They often propose subscriptions to magazines that do not exist or are unrelated to the law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

if they seek money, disappear for good.
