Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Hoteliers and Shopkeepers

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Medio and Alto Garda regions, proposing subscriptions to magazines of the force.

They are not actual military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

if they are after money, ceases to appear.
