Garda Scammers Pose as Carabinieri to Trick Hoteliers and Business Owners

They impersonate Carabinieri when calling hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in Middle and Upper Garda, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, at different times, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often suggest subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by someone who,

would take your money but then disappears.
