Garda Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri in Phone Fraud Attempts

They impersonate Carabinieri when τηλεphoning hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda, offering subscriptions to military-related magazines.

In reality, they are not soldiers but con artists who, from time to time, claim to be part of the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the Comune (Municipal Office).

How to recognize scams

They often suggest subscriptions to non-existent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, stay alert and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you are being targeted by someone who,

asks for money and then disappears.
