Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri in Garda Area to Trick Locals

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

They are not genuine military personnel but scammers who, each time, claim to belong to the finance police, police, fire brigade, or the Municipality guards.

How to Recognize Scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by someone who,

has money but no longer shows up.
