Garda Fraudsters Pose as Police in Fake Magazine Subscription Scams
The suspects pretend to be Carabinieri when calling hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurant operators in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.
They are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipal police.
Recognizing scams
They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement agencies.
Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,
having money, no longer shows themselves.
