Garda Area Scammers Pose as Carabinieri, Offer Fake Magazine Subscriptions
They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda area, proposing subscriptions to police magazines.
These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, police, fire brigade, or the Comune (Municipality) police.
Recognizing the scams
They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.
Therefore, stay alert and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,
if they are asking for money, will no longer show themselves.
