Scammers Impersonate Police to Target Garda Hoteliers and Shopkeepers

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda, offering magazine subscriptions related to the force.

They are not soldiers, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

Recognizing the scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

So, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,
