Garda Fraudsters Impersonate Police to Trick Hoteliers and Retailers

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda, offering subscriptions to army’s magazines.

These are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

Recognizing scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have no connection with the law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately inform the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect that you have been targeted by those who,

if they had money, would no longer show up.
