Garda Scam Alert: Fake Police Callers Offer Nonexistent Magazine Subscriptions

The perpetrators pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurant managers in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, at different times, claim to belong to finance, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often suggest subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement authorities.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by someone who,
