Scammers Impersonate Police Offering Fake Magazine Subscriptions

They impersonate Carabinieri when contacting hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the financial police, regular police, fire brigade, or municipal police (Vigili Urbani).

How to recognize scams

They often suggest subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement (forces of order).

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by individuals who,

if they are after money, tend to disappear.
