Impersonation Scams: Carabinieri Callers Target Garda Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Medio and Alto Garda areas, offering subscriptions to the force‘s magazines.

These are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

Recognizing the scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or ones that have nothing to do with the authorities.

So, be vigilant and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have fallen victim to those who,

if they have money, disappear and are no longer seen.
