Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri in Garda Area to Trick Locals

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Medio and Alto Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, each time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or to the Comune police.

How to recognize scams

They often suggest subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately contact the real Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who, if they seek money, tend to disappear.
