Garda Area Scam: Impersonators Pose as Police for Fraudulent Subscriptions

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to arm magazines.

They are not soldiers, but scam artists who, each time, claim to belong to finance, police, fire brigade, or the Municipality police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be cautious and promptly notify the real Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by someone who,

if they ask for money, will disappear without a trace.
