Fraudsters Impersonate Carabinieri to Scam Hoteliers and Retailers

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in Medio and Alto Garda, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

These are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, police, fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be alert and immediately notify the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by individuals who,

if they demand money, disappear without a trace.
