Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Garda Area Business Owners

They disguise themselves as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to army magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the regular police, the fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines unrelated to the law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately alert the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by someone who,

having obtained money, disappears and is no longer seen.
