Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Garda Area Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Medio and Alto Garda areas, offering subscriptions to the corps‘s magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, general police, fire brigade, or the Municipal Police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or to those that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri – simply dial 112 – as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

having taken money, do not appear again.
