Garda Scammers Pose as Police to Sell Fake Magazine Subscriptions

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to army’s magazines.

These are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines unrelated to the law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri—just dial 112— as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,
