Garda Scammers Impersonate Authorities to Trick Hoteliers and Shops
They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to the arm‘s magazines.
These are not military personnel, but scammers who, at various times, claim to belong to the finance department, the police, the fire brigade, or the Comune‘s traffic wardens.
How to recognize scams
They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have no connection to law enforcement agencies.
Therefore, be cautious and immediately alert the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect being targeted by someone who,
after obtaining money, disappears and is no longer seen.
