Garda scammers impersonate Carabinieri to target local businesses

They pose as Carabinieri when making telephone contact with hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

They are not military personnel but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance authorities, police, fire brigades, or the Municipality police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who, after obtaining money, disappears.
