Scammers Pose as Police to Trick Hoteliers and Shops in Garda Area

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, proposing subscriptions to the army’s magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.

Therefore, beware and immediately notify the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

after obtaining money, disappears and is no longer seen.
