Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri in Garda Area, Warn Authorities

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Medio and Alto Garda areas, offering subscriptions to the army’s magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, at different times, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications unrelated to the law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately inform the authentic Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who, after obtaining money, cease contact.
