Scammers Pose as Carabinieri in Garda Area, Warns Authorities

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurants in the Medio and Alto Garda areas, proposing subscriptions to military magazines.

These are not actual members of the armed forces, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to financial institutions, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often suggest subscriptions to fake magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the true Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

after obtaining money, no longer make themselves visible.
