Fraudsters Impersonate Carabinieri in Garda Phone Scams, Authorities Warn

They pretend to be Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in Medio and Alto Garda, offering subscriptions to the armed forces magazines.

These are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, police, fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have nothing to do with the law enforcement authorities.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by individuals who,

after obtaining money, disappear and do not appear again.
