Scammers Pretending as Police Offer Fake Magazine Subscriptions

They pretend to be Carabinieri when calling hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

These are not members of the military, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to be part of the finance police, police, fire brigade, or city police (Vigili del Comune).

How to Recognize the Scams

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines unrelated to the law enforcement (forze dell’ordine).

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

after obtaining money, disappears and no longer shows up.
