Gaiulli Warns of Dangers at So.Ga. Rally in Peschiera del Garda
Peschiera del Garda has warned of public-safety risks linked to modified car gatherings outside the authorised event area during So.Ga. – Southern Gardasee. Mayor Orietta Gaiulli said the municipality does not organise or promote the meet-up, and highlighted that cars concentrate on local roads and parking lots, creating repeated issues for residents, tourists and businesses.
According to the city, the authorised event is a static display at Villa Conti Cipolla in the Mantua municipality of Monzambano, while the problems reported occur elsewhere, including episodes described as wheel-spinning, drifting, high-speed acceleration and street racing. The mayor also referenced a recent incident in which a family with two children was hit by a vehicle present in the area, and said the city has been raising the issue for years with police and other authorities without achieving a decisive solution.
For this year’s edition, Peschiera del Garda has put in place a “special security plan” with the Verona Questura and law-enforcement agencies, including making the historic centre off-limits to modified cars (except for guests of local accommodation), closing access points and many parking areas, and activating the municipal operations centre. The deployment includes continuous checks and special services by multiple forces, with additional concern after social media reports of further groups arriving between Friday and Saturday from abroad; the mayor urged people to avoid risky areas and call 112 immediately if needed.
