Lonato Fire: Mayor Orders Residents to Keep Windows Closed

A major fire broke out around 2:00 p.m. today at the Valli Spa plant in Lonato (via Mantova Traversa Prima), producing a thick column of black smoke visible from several kilometers away. The blaze involved plastic materials stored on site and other substances that experts are still identifying.

Firefighters from Brescia, Mantua and Verona responded to contain the flames, while local police and ARPA technicians (the regional environmental protection agency) carried out air-quality monitoring to check whether toxic substances were released into the atmosphere. The incident triggered coordinated efforts to limit potential health impacts on the local population.

As a precaution, Mayor Nicola Bianchi signed urgent municipal ordinance no. 212 (12/07/2026), requiring residents and anyone near the facility to keep windows closed and avoid staying outdoors. The order will remain in effect until ARPA and ATS confirm that safe conditions have been restored and there is no risk to respiratory health.
