Lonato del Garda: Air Quality Monitoring Continues After Warehouse Fire

ARPA Lombardia has continued air-quality monitoring following a fire that broke out on Sunday, July 12, in a warehouse used for storing plastic materials at a waste treatment company in Lonato del Garda (Brescia). The agency activated a high-volume sampler at 18:10 to check for micro-pollutants including dioxins, furans, and PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons). The fire is still ongoing but under control and gradually decreasing; the first filter was collected on the morning of Monday, July 13, and will be analyzed the same day, with initial results expected no earlier than tomorrow.

Monitoring will continue for several days until normal air-quality conditions are restored. The equipment has been installed outdoors in Via Mantova, set up by ARPA Lombardia’s special atmospheric contamination unit and the meteorology service after consultation with Mayor Nicola Bianchi. The municipality has issued an ordinance advising residents to keep windows closed, avoid food left exposed outdoors, and not consume fruit and vegetables from local gardens until further notice.
