Torpedo Incident in Lake Garda: €100 Million for Professional Fishing Businesses

The Veneto Region has allocated €100,000 to support authorized professional fishing businesses on Lake Garda in efforts to combat the invasive catfish. The funding can cover up to 100% of eligible expenses for targeted gear, including nets, conservation systems, and equipment used for capturing, storing, and commercializing the invasive species.

The measure applies to companies with the owner—or at least one partner—registered in the Garda professional fishers registry. The regional goal is to reduce the catfish’s impact on local fish stocks while supporting an activity that requires different techniques from traditional fishing. On the Lombardy side, a separate “selective control” project submitted in recent weeks is still under evaluation.
