Bardolino: Fish Hatchery, Housing and Land Protection Among New Municipal Measures

Bardolino has kicked off a new phase of protection for Lake Garda and its surrounding land after the Veneto Region approved an inter-institutional agreement with the Province of Verona and the Municipality of Bardolino to temporarily manage the Mezzariva fish hatchery. The municipal council also adopted measures related to residential construction and the protection of agricultural areas.

Under the regional deal, the hatchery—owned by the Province of Verona—will be run on a provisional basis while a final management framework is defined. The municipality will handle maintenance and keep the facility operational, with technical and scientific coordination by the Region, aiming to restore services after more than two years of inactivity and to support the reproduction and restocking of native fish species in Lake Garda. The move was welcomed by regional fisheries assessor Dario Bond and Mayor Daniele Bertasi.

Separately, the municipality’s July 30 newsletter said Federalberghi Garda Veneto will back the area’s bid to become Italy’s Capital of Culture in 2029, and it announced “Aperitivo d’Estate” on August 12 at Villa Carrara Bottagisio.
