Don Antonio Mazzi’s Ties to Maguzzano and a Fond Memory of Our Editorial Team
The death of Don Antonio Mazzi has brought renewed attention to his long-standing ties with Lake Garda, particularly the Abbey of Maguzzano. Mazzi, who studied in the abbey during his youth, maintained a close connection with the Lonato del Garda area throughout his formation and pastoral work.
His decision to be buried in Maguzzano confirms his bond with the Brescia territory. In November 2025, Lonato del Garda awarded him honorary citizenship, citing his relationship with the Valsorda community and his commitment to young people. Over the years, Gardanotizie staff met him multiple times, recalling his direct approach to local communities and his focus on youth, welcome, and the chance to start again.
Mazzi’s name is especially linked to Exodus and the communities that supported thousands of people through educational and reintegration paths. For the Garda area, Maguzzano is also the place where his personal and territorial connection reaches its conclusion.
