Vandals Leave Desenzano Port in Disrepair

Boats moored at Desenzano’s port are again being targeted by damage and theft, with owners reporting that vessels are used at night as makeshift shelters for drinking and drug use, or for illegal camping. The latest incidents include a uncovered motorboat allegedly stripped to steal cushions and a sailboat damaged to gain access below deck, according to reports gathered by the Carabinieri in Desenzano. Identifying those responsible has so far proved difficult.

Owners say 315 of them collectively spend between €800 and €1,000 per year for mooring, on top of additional expenses for repairs and cleaning. They also argue that the private security service activated by the local administration is not covering all areas of the port, and that new streetlights are not working. After thefts and vandalism began in 2023 and a period of relative calm followed for two years, the situation has worsened again this year, including reports of unauthorized camping on boats.
