Lake Garda Water Emergency: Federalberghi Mobilizes Tourism Businesses

An ongoing water emergency on Lake Garda has led Federalberghi Garda Veneto to involve 400 member tourism businesses in a campaign to promote more responsible water use among operators and guests. The initiative is being carried out in cooperation with Azienda Gardesana Servizi (AGS), amid a period of high tourist presence and prolonged lack of rainfall.

Federalberghi asked facilities to cut non-essential consumption, including avoiding car and outdoor surface washing and limiting irrigation. It also urged careful management of swimming pools, with filling and refilling carried out only when necessary, and recommended running washing machines and dishwashers only at full load while promptly checking for leaks. The association has already distributed AGS information materials to its members, reposting them on its social channels and asking operators to share the guidance with guests, while also conducting phone outreach to each facility.

Mattia Boschelli, director of Federalberghi Garda Veneto, said coordinated action is needed “in a situation like this,” noting that the association had started sending related guidance as early as June but is now stepping up efforts. He also referenced work carried out in recent months by AGS and the Comunità del Garda on managing lake levels and their use for agricultural purposes, as part of Federalberghi’s ongoing coordination with local institutions.
